Warner Music Sweden AB (previously Metronome Records) is a Swedish record company and label, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
Warner Music took a major initiative to digitize and restore the entire tape archive of Roxette – one of Sweden’s most legendary pop acts.
The cinematic restoration effort takes place in collaboration with Fyra K Media and involves scanning over 200 rolls of original 16mm and 35mm film from Roxette’s iconic music videos.
To ensure the highest quality preservation, final masters are delivered in high resolution ProRes 4444 SQ, with many tracks also mixed in Dolby Atmos.
No existing MAM system could handle the huge HDR master files – facilitating speedy and reliable file transfers, combined with metadata extraction and transcoding of proxy media.
Solid file sharing abilities were required for lab vendor to be able to access the work area.
A very important part of workflow was to present the final result to stakeholders, in highest quality possible – in other words: the chosen solution had to be able support streaming the final media
Warner decided to use accsyn as the main platform – both during the restauration work and for long term archival:
With masters properly logged in accsyn, Warner is given full control of their valuable media assets – no matter their size.
Thanks to accsyn’s fast, secure and reliable file transfer protocol, transporting media is painless.
The web streaming functionality presents a secure way of sharing media, at highest quality possible,
Warner Music and Accsyn in the work with the Roxette material
Warner Music uses Accsyn to distribute proxy files to various partners. Currently, extensive work is underway to digitize all existing tape recordings with Roxette, with the aim of preserving the material and enabling new, mastered and restored versions.
The system has proven to be both fast and user-friendly, which facilitates collaboration with editors and others involved. Since we all work with common time codes and have access to an integrated chat function, it is easy to give and receive feedback in real time.
Our masters are handled in the ProRes 4444 SQ format, and for many of the songs there are also mixes in Dolby Atmos. The system makes it smooth and secure to send material, which is crucial in a project of this scale.
We are also collaborating with Fyra K Media and accsyn in a large project where all original film (16mm and 35mm) from Roxette’s music videos will be scanned. In total, this involves over 200 rolls of film. Three of Roxette’s biggest songs have already been recreated in 4K HDR, and the material will also be available for use in future productions.
